- The Nigerian Senate has also criticized the coup of the Shagari government
- General Muhammadu Buhari overthrew Shehu Shagari in late 1983
- Senators say this is a bad coup that has brought Nigeria back to life
Authorities say Buhari's coup has ravaged Nigeria
The referendum by General Muhammadu Buhari to Shehu Shagari has met with new members in the recent session of the Senate. The country's sanctions have also condemned this event in the past.
By the end of 1983 Major General Muhammadu Buhari was outside the government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who ruled over the country. The National Senate has stated that this coup has thrown Nigeria into trouble.
Last Thursday, the former president, Shehu Shagari, died last week. Parliamentarians have also said it should be a reminder of the former president.

A Sokoto Sentator, where the deceased came out, and 9 members of the council, brought this matter to the Senate to call on the federal government to do something that would bring Shagari to his mind after his death.
It was Senator Ibrahim Danbaba and his brothers who made this decision. Senator Mao Ohuambuwa said the abduction of Shagari was largely backing Nigeria from economic and national development for at least 20 years.
Kano State and some other Senate members have praised the late Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who said he was a Nigerian man who wanted to achieve peace and unity.
